Speaking of Justice: Social Research and Social Justice

September 5-8, 2008 in Barcelona, Spain

Call for Papers: The Research Committee on Lanuage and Society, RC25, of the Association is calling for Paper, Panel, and Joint Session proposals for the First ISA World Forum of Sociology.

RC25 conceives of studies of language broadly and welcomes all varieties of sociological analysis of language/representation. Proposals that take up issues of national and international debate relevant to any aspect of social justice are encouraged, as well as proposals of general relevance to language and society.

Please submit an abstract (350 word maximum) by January 5, 2008 to:

Inaugural International Occupational Science Think Tank in 2006

Message from Virginia Dickie:

Dr. Alison Wicks convened the Inaugural International Occupational Science Think Tank in 2006 at the Shoalhaven Campus of the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. As a participant in this event, I was impressed with the energy being devoted to the study of occupation and application of this science by scholars and practitioners around the world. We have much to learn from each other, and much to learn in our science. Dr. Wicks has written a report of the Think Tank, which is available to all who are interested at the web site link below. 

 

Research Resources

1) The MacArthur Foundation today announced plans to build the emerging field
of digital learning, committing $50 million over five years to the effort. The Foundation will fund research and innovative projects focused on understanding the impact of the widespread use of digital media on our youth and how they learn.   See email below for more details.

Funding:
The MacArthur Foundation will host annual competitions to fund research, writing, and demonstration projects as part of its Digital Learning Initiative.  Applications and more information will be available in early 2007.
